      Some medicinal plants that can be found in the Nizhny Novgorod region can be dangerous to collect. This was reported to the "Living in Nizhny" portal by Olga Biryukova, a lecturer at the Department of Botany and Zoology of N.N. Lobachevsky NNGU, head of the herbarium of the Botanical Garden.

      The expert pointed out that some medicinal plants are also poisonous. Because of this, it is dangerous to collect them independently. This includes, for example, lily of the valley and Lobelia's hellebore.

      It is also prohibited to collect medicinal plants that are listed in the regional Red Book. These include Marshall's thyme, spring adonis, and sand immortelle.

      Medicinal plants that are allowed to be collected are also recommended to be gathered not everywhere.

      "For collecting medicinal raw materials, places significantly removed from cities, major transport highways, and industrial centers are suitable, as plants have a high ability to accumulate various pollutants from soil, water, and air," said Olga Biryukova.
