Nizhny Novgorod residents were explained whether it is necessary to help stranded delivery robots.
On July 13, 2026, at 19:43 Society Delivery robots began operating in Nizhny Novgorod in May 2026. Initially, they fulfilled orders for the "Yandex Lavka" service, and later "Yandex Food" joined them. As explained to the IA "NTA-Volga" by the company's press service, the decision to further expand robot delivery is made gradually. The priority is areas with suitable infrastructure and growing demand for delivery. The robots are designed for autonomous transportation of groceries, ready meals, and everyday goods over distances of up to two kilometers. This concerns the "last mile" format - delivery from the store or dark store to the customer's address. If a free robot is available in the area, the app automatically offers the user this method of receiving the order. The cargo compartment has a volume of 61 liters, and the maximum load is up to 25 kilograms. It can hold, for example, six large pizzas and four two-liter bottles of water. In Nizhny Novgorod, fourth-generation robots are used. Their cargo compartment is divided into two independent cells, allowing for the delivery of two orders in one trip. Most tasks in the urban environment are solved independently by the devices thanks to their design and sensor system. They can operate around the clock and in any weather, including rain and snow. Six driving wheels help overcome curbs up to ten centimeters high, off-road areas, and slushy snow. The company noted that new models are additionally trained to extricate themselves from snowdrifts - previously, operator intervention was required for this. In winter, the robots switch to tires with a more aggressive tread: the wheel diameter increases to 23 centimeters, improving traction and increasing ground clearance. "Of course, the urban environment is unpredictable, so in the event of an emergency, the robot calls a remote operator, who takes the necessary measures. Attempting to move the robot manually is not advisable - it has a considerable weight. For support communication, the robots have a QR code where you can send your request," the press service added. Earlier, a lawyer clarified who is responsible for accidents involving delivery robots. NIA "Nizhny Novgorod" has channels on Telegram and MAX.
