More than 200 stray animals were captured in Nizhny Novgorod in 2026.

This was reported by Vladimir Groisman, the head of the "Compassion NN" fund and director of the "Zooschutz NN" veterinary hospital, to IA "Vremya N". According to him, in the first half of 2026, 204 stray animals were captured in Nizhny Novgorod, compared to 273 a year ago. The number of reports related to unprovoked aggression of stray dogs towards people has also decreased. "In the first six months of this year, 16 such reports were registered. In the first half of last year, there were 21," noted Vladimir Groisman. The head of the fund clarified that the CNR (capture-neuter-vaccinate-return) program is being implemented throughout the Nizhny Novgorod region. It applies not only to stray dogs but also to ownerless cats. At the same time, the "Zooschutz NN" veterinary hospital is responsible for capturing stray animals in Nizhny Novgorod, Bor, as well as in the Koverninsky and Gorodets municipal districts.
