In Nizhny Novgorod, at the site of the Academy "Mayak" named after A. D. Sakharov, a ceremony was held to award the winners and prize-winners of the team standings of the student competitions among higher educational institutions of Nizhny Novgorod and the Nizhny Novgorod region "Universiade - 2026". The award ceremony for the athletes was timed to coincide with Youth Day-2026, the celebration of which was organized as part of the national project "Youth and Children". The Universiade program includes competitions in 21 sports, which took place from March to June. Teams from 16 universities and branches of universities in the region participated in them. "The Universiade is one of the important platforms for involving as many young people and students as possible in an active lifestyle. We constantly work on this together with the commission for the development of student sports under the council of rectors of higher educational institutions in the Nizhny Novgorod region. Student leagues in various sports operate in the region, and many competitions for students are held. The 'Universiade' is certainly one of the largest tournaments that brought together more than 2,000 students from different universities in the region on sports grounds over four months. I congratulate the winners and prize-winners and wish them good luck in the all-Russian stage of the competitions!" emphasized Dmitry Kabailo, the Minister of Sports of the Nizhny Novgorod region, at the award ceremony.
As a result of the team standings, the winner of the competitions was NNSU named after Lobachevsky, the second place was taken by NGPU named after Kozma Minin, and the third place went to NGTU named after Alekseev.
Representatives of NNSU are participating in the final stage of the competitions - the X All-Russian Summer Universiade-2026, which takes place from June 10 to August 18 in Mordovia and Bashkortostan. The university team has already traveled to Saransk for a judo tournament, and on July 1, they will participate in badminton competitions.
