This was reported by the press service of the city duma. Ten Nizhny Novgorod residents were awarded the title of "Honorary Veteran of the City of Nizhny Novgorod." This title is granted to citizens who have personal merits and high achievements in various fields of labor, have made significant contributions to the development of the city, and continue to actively participate in the veteran movement after retirement. The title of "Honorary Veteran of the City of Nizhny Novgorod" in 2026 was awarded to Valery Biryukov, Larisa Bolshakova, Sergey Burnin, Leonid Karasev, Irina Kolonskaya, Yuri Kolmakov, Natalia Krylova, Yuri Modin, Elena Polyashova, and Nadezhda Rudchenko. Among the awardees are chairpersons and deputy chairpersons of district and primary veteran organizations, veterans of combat operations, the Armed Forces, and the Ministry of Emergency Situations, a liquidator of the consequences of the Chernobyl nuclear power plant disaster and the earthquake in Armenia, and a resident of besieged Leningrad. Almost all of them have the status of "Labor Veteran," and some hold the title of Honored Veteran of the Nizhny Novgorod Region. The work experience of most exceeds 30 years, and each of them has dedicated from 10 to 30 years to public work. "Today we made an important decision to award the title of 'Honorary Veteran of the City of Nizhny Novgorod' to ten Nizhny Novgorod residents. The biographies of these people are a living history of our city, and their labor is an example for the younger generation," emphasized Evgeny Chintsov. The awards were granted for special merits in professional activities for the benefit of the city's residents and contributions to the development of Nizhny Novgorod. The title is awarded with at least 10 years of experience in the relevant organization and professional achievements. It can also be awarded for a feat performed on the territory of the city, demonstrating courage, bravery, and valor. Each year, no more than five people are awarded in each category. This year, five representatives from nine fields received titles: fire protection, healthcare, education, police, social protection, culture and arts, road management, housing and communal services, as well as physical culture and sports.
