      Volunteers have improved the grounds of three more churches as part of the "Shrines of Nizhny Novgorod Land" project. Over the past week, the volunteer "landing party" visited the districts of Perevozsky, Bolshie Boldino, and Shatkovsky. The social project "Shrines of Nizhny Novgorod Land" is being implemented for the second consecutive year by the Nizhny Novgorod regional branch of the All-Russian public movement "Volunteers of Victory" in collaboration with the Nizhny Novgorod Metropolis and with the support of the regional government. The project aims to preserve the historical and spiritual heritage of the region, as well as to engage the residents of Nizhny Novgorod Oblast in the preservation of the shrines of their native land. In 2026, volunteers have already visited 7 churches, with plans to carry out work on the grounds of 26 churches of the Nizhny Novgorod Metropolis. In the city of Perevoz, the Volunteers of Victory participated in the improvement of the church in honor of the Protection of the Holy Virgin. The work was carried out together with participants from the "Oberig" movement and the Volunteer Center of Nizhny Novgorod Oblast. Volunteers painted the fence, weeded the beds, cleaned up trash, and tidied up the area around the church. An educational program was organized for the participants— the children were shown the Perevoz District Museum and Exhibition Center and the church built in 1813 in the village of Shershovo. Another volunteer "landing party" landed in the village of Peresekino in the Bolshie Boldino district, where the church in honor of the Protection of the Holy Virgin is located. The Volunteers of Victory team cut down bushes, removed branches, mowed the grass, cleared the inner space of the ancient church from undergrowth, and leveled the area along the outer contour of the building. After the work was completed, an excursion was organized for the participants to the Bolshie Boldino Local History Museum in the village of Molchanovo. The guide spoke about the history of the church in Peresekino and the fates of the clergy who served there and faced persecution for their faith in the first half of the 20th century. Improvement work also took place in the Shatkovsky district on the grounds of the ruined church in honor of St. Nicholas the Wonderworker in the village of Staroe Ivan'tsevo. Here, the Volunteers of Victory were assisted by volunteers from Rosatom. The volunteers cleared the church grounds of trees, shrubs, and undergrowth, and removed construction and household waste from the surrounding area. After the work was completed, an excursion program was organized for the participants. Guests learned about the rich history of the city and the main church of Arzamas, discovered the features of creating the majestic iconostasis, church frescoes, and the most revered relics of the cathedral. "Our project 'Shrines of Nizhny Novgorod Land' unites people of different ages and professions around an important cause— preserving the historical memory and spiritual heritage of our region. Each outing is not only work but also an opportunity to learn more about the history of our native land, to touch the fates of people and shrines that are part of our common culture," noted Maria Samodelkina, head of the Nizhny Novgorod regional branch of the All-Russian public movement "Volunteers of Victory."

      The work to improve the grounds of the holy sites in Nizhny Novgorod Oblast will continue until September 2026.
