      In the Nizhny Novgorod region, the investigation into the criminal case of illegal sand extraction has been completed. Two residents of the region will stand trial, accused of illegal entrepreneurship and large-scale theft. This was reported by the official representative of the Ministry of Internal Affairs of Russia, Irina Volk.

      According to the investigation, from 2023 to 2025, the men organized sand extraction on land plots near Dzerzhinsk. They did not obtain the necessary permits from the Ministry of Ecology and Natural Resources of the Nizhny Novgorod region. The extracted sand was loaded into dump trucks and then sold to buyers.

      Investigators calculated that during this time, more than 263 thousand tons of the mineral were illegally extracted. The damage caused to the state exceeded 49 million rubles. The illegal activity was uncovered by employees of the economic security and anti-corruption department of the regional Ministry of Internal Affairs in collaboration with specialists from the regional Ministry of Ecology. During searches, law enforcement officers seized dump trucks, a loader, computer equipment, documents, and other items that may serve as evidence in the case.

      Currently, the investigation materials have been sent to the Dzerzhinsk City Court of the Nizhny Novgorod region. The third alleged participant in the scheme is still being investigated as part of a separate criminal case.
