Through culture - to the law: Senior Lieutenant Zaitsev and Lieutenant Dadaev on how a Russian and a Dagestani work together to ensure order on Nizhny Novgorod roads.

Ensuring road safety is a task that requires not only professional knowledge but also impeccable interaction within the crew. A vivid example of such teamwork is demonstrated by the officers of the Traffic Police Department of the Main Directorate of the Ministry of Internal Affairs of Russia for the Nizhny Novgorod Region, Senior Lieutenant of Police Sergey Grigorievich Zaitsev and Lieutenant of Police Kirill Alavutdinovich Dadaev. Despite the difference in age and length of service, as well as various cultural traditions, they successfully accomplish their assigned tasks, demonstrating an example of camaraderie and mutual assistance. Senior Lieutenant Sergey Zaitsev is a service veteran. His career in the State Traffic Inspectorate began in 2002 and has lasted for more than two decades. Lieutenant Kirill Dadaev joined the unit later, having previous experience in another police department. They have been working together for two years, with Sergey acting as a mentor to Kirill.

When asked about the main principle of their activities, the inspectors unanimously emphasized: "The main principle of our work is to ensure road safety and to preserve the life and health, property, and possessions of citizens." The senior mentor admitted that what he enjoys most about his service is direct communication with road users. At the same time, the inspectors strive to find an individual approach to each driver. "Drivers are different: with some, we find common ground instantly, with others it takes a bit longer, sometimes we have to explain the reason for the stop in more detail," emphasized Senior Lieutenant Zaitsev.

However, the ability to establish a dialogue is just one aspect of the service. It is equally important for the inspector to maintain vigilance, allowing them to timely identify and prevent serious offenses. During the interview, the traffic police officers provided specific examples from their service practice. Sergey Zaitsev recounted an incident that occurred last year in the Volodarsky District. Officers on duty stopped a driver who exhibited signs of alcohol intoxication. During a search of the vehicle, a firearm was discovered. Subsequently, the driver was held administratively responsible for operating a vehicle while intoxicated. An investigative team was called to the scene, the weapon was seized, and further investigative actions were carried out by authorized personnel.

Additionally, the crew has repeatedly assisted citizens who found themselves in trouble on the road. Lieutenant Dadaev noted an incident that occurred shortly after his transfer to the unit. In 2024, while on duty, the inspectors noticed a young man on the roadside who was desperately waving his hand. Upon stopping, they found that he required emergency medical assistance. The officers promptly transported the citizen to the nearest hospital using special light signals. Subsequently, the rescued young man thanked the police officers, and the crew was awarded a departmental commendation.

Speaking about the distribution of responsibilities during pursuits, the partners noted the established tactics. According to Sergey Zaitsev, the junior partner is often behind the wheel of the service vehicle, while Sergey himself acts as the navigator.

Despite the difference in age and experience, the relationship between the inspectors has gone beyond purely professional. "Even during our off-duty time, Kirill and I mainly discuss work-related matters. Occasionally, we meet in our free time and communicate in neutral territory. We can also spend weekends together with our families — with our wives and children," shared Senior Lieutenant Zaitsev.

An important topic of conversation was the establishment of professional trust. Sergey Zaitsev, acting as a mentor, highly evaluated his colleague: "At the beginning of our work, I was observing. At this point, I fully trust him. As an employee, he is reliable and diligent. He will have my back in a difficult situation."

Summarizing the conversation, both inspectors emphasized that success in their work is achieved not through national or cultural affiliation, but through common goals and mutual respect. Senior Lieutenant Sergey Zaitsev concluded: "We are different in culture, but we wear the same epaulettes and together are responsible for road safety." Lieutenant Kirill Dadaev supported his partner: "Employees of different nationalities can serve in the same patrol; the main thing is respect for each other and for people."

The officers, through their personal example, prove that professionalism and loyalty to duty are the foundation for effective work in ensuring law and order on the roads of the Nizhny Novgorod Region.
