The first deserving architects will appear in the Nizhny Novgorod region.

      On June 5, 2026, at 16:25, Society The first meeting of the commission for awarding the new honorary title "Honored Architect of the Nizhny Novgorod Region" took place at the Ministry of Urban Development and Agglomeration of the Nizhny Novgorod Region. The head of the department, Daria Shunaeva, noted that this title is being awarded in the region for the first time.

      "And this is not just an award, but a bridge between the traditions of our architectural school and the modern challenges of urban planning," she said.

      According to her, this is about recognizing professionals who can combine respect for the historical environment with modern solutions. The head of the department emphasized that architects create not just individual buildings, but a quality urban environment that sets development standards for decades to come. The title is awarded based on the results of reviewing applications submitted by teams from organizations, the governor, deputies of the Legislative Assembly, local government bodies, and public associations. The composition of the commission was approved by a resolution of the regional parliament. It includes the chief architect of the Nizhny Novgorod region, the first deputy minister Sergey Popov, deputy minister Mikhail Genin, head of the architecture and urban planning department Natalia Shabyrova, director of the State Budgetary Institution "IRANO" Grigory Zibrov, deputy chairman of the Legislative Assembly Denis Bakiyev, a member of the expert council under the relevant committee Alexander Bodrievsky, as well as the chief architect of "GORPRO" and chairman of the board of the Nizhny Novgorod branch of the Union of Architects of Russia Maxim Gorev. Sergey Popov noted that the modern architect acts as a strategist who takes into account transport loads, demographic changes, and the needs of different groups of residents. Thoughtful courtyards, convenient pedestrian connections, and preserved viewpoints create a comfortable urban environment.

      Denis Bakiyev expressed confidence that the new title will solidify the status of professionals who shape the appearance of cities and will serve as an incentive to preserve the traditions of the Nizhny Novgorod architectural school and attract young specialists. Commission members also emphasized the importance of mentorship: successful projects become practical benchmarks for future architects. Based on the results of an open vote, candidates for the award will be determined. The award ceremony is scheduled for August 2026.
