A "crisis apartment" for pregnant women and mothers with children who find themselves in difficult situations has opened in Nizhny Novgorod.

      A second "crisis apartment" for pregnant women and families with children who find themselves in difficult life situations has opened in Nizhny Novgorod. The space is designed for the simultaneous accommodation of up to three families and provides not only safe housing but also comprehensive support for returning to independent living.

      The apartment includes five living spaces: three separate bedrooms, as well as common areas - a living room, kitchen, bathroom, pantry, and laundry room. Residents have access to all necessary furniture and household appliances. In addition, the apartment is equipped with an office for a duty social worker.

      Residents receive assistance from psychologists, social workers, lawyers, and other specialized experts. The target audience of the project is women with children who have suffered from any form of violence, lost their housing or means of livelihood, pregnant women without support, and other categories of citizens who find themselves in a crisis situation.

      The work of the facility will be supervised by the social rehabilitation center for minors "Vera" in the Moscow district of Nizhny Novgorod.

      On June 2, the new space was visited by the Minister of Social Development and Family Policy of the Nizhny Novgorod Region, Igor Sedykh. He emphasized that supporting families in difficult situations and developing the institution of motherhood and childhood are key tasks of the national project "Family."

      "The first such space for accommodating five families appeared in our region back in 2023. Now we are opening a second crisis apartment for three families. Plans are in place to create new facilities for emergency accommodation of families in other municipalities of the region - Dzerzhinsk, Arzamas, Vyksa," he reported.

      The significance of the initiative was also expressed by the director of the ANO "Resource Center 'Children in the Family'" Svetlana Meller. According to her, the creation of crisis apartments is part of the regional concept of the "Unified Model of Assistance to Children."

      The concept of the "Unified Model of Assistance to Children" was developed by the Ministry of Social Development and Family Policy of the region in collaboration with the project of the People's Front "Region of Care." The concept is a continuation of the project "Prevention of Social Orphanhood among Children under Four Years of Age," initiated by the Commissioner for Children's Rights under the President of Russia, Maria Lvova-Belova.

      The main task of the initiative is to reduce the number of children in stationary social institutions, as well as to build a system of assistance to families in crisis situations without separating them from their children.

      The ANO Resource Center "Children in the Family" was created to coordinate this work.
