Seven people were poisoned by mushrooms in the Nizhny Novgorod region in 2025.
June 1, 2026 13:38 Society In 2025, 7 cases of mushroom poisoning were registered in the Nizhny Novgorod region. This is stated in the report of the regional office of Rospotrebnadzor. 7 people were affected, and there were no fatalities. All cases were related to the consumption of poisonous mushrooms collected and prepared by individuals. Compared to previous years, the number of such poisonings has decreased. In 2023, 20 cases were recorded, affecting 22 people. In 2024, there were 19 cases and also 22 affected individuals. However, in the previous two years, no fatalities were registered. In 2025, the region recorded 1,104 cases of acute poisoning of chemical etiology. In 118 cases, there was a fatal outcome. Among the affected in 2025, there were 171 children (15.5% of the total number) and 87 adolescents (7.9%). Most often, residents of the region are poisoned by unspecified substances, household chemicals, carbon monoxide, and other similar substances—such cases account for 38% of the total number. In second place are poisonings from medications (28.4%), in third place are drugs and hallucinogens (17.6%), and in fourth place are alcoholic products (15.4%). Poisonings from toxins found in food products account for 0.6%.
