Gleb Nikitin and Yuri Seliverstov summarized the results of the region's cooperation with the Republic of Belarus.
The Governor of the Nizhny Novgorod Region, Gleb Nikitin, held a meeting with the Extraordinary and Plenipotentiary Ambassador of the Republic of Belarus to the Russian Federation, Yuri Seliverstov. The negotiations took place in the Nizhny Novgorod Kremlin on May 28, 2026, and were dedicated to issues of further strengthening cooperation between the region and the Republic of Belarus within the framework of the Union State. The meeting was attended by the Deputy Governor of the Nizhny Novgorod Region, Yegor Polyakov, the Minister of International and Interregional Relations of the Nizhny Novgorod Region, Olga Guseva, the representative of the Russian Ministry of Foreign Affairs in Nizhny Novgorod, Sergey Malov, the Deputy Minister of Industry, Trade, and Entrepreneurship of the Nizhny Novgorod Region, Vladimir Balakin, the Consul General of the Republic of Belarus in Nizhny Novgorod, Oleg Shvets, and the General Director of the JSC "Development Corporation of the Nizhny Novgorod Region," Igor Ishchenko. Also, the Deputy Chairman of the Government of the Nizhny Novgorod Region, Igor Zotov, and the head of the representation of the Nizhny Novgorod Region of the Russian Federation in the Republic of Belarus, Andrey Dudkin, joined the meeting via video conference. Opening the meeting, Gleb Nikitin emphasized the priority of interaction with the Republic of Belarus for the region. "The relations between the Nizhny Novgorod Region and the Republic of Belarus have developed deeply and interestingly. In principle, for our region, Belarus has always been the number one trading partner. We set target indicators for ourselves and constantly achieved them. We implemented not just large, but indeed significant, interesting, and bright projects in the field of high-tech areas, industry, and other sectors. And, as far as I remember, the Nizhny Novgorod Region is also among the important partners for the Republic of Belarus. I personally visited the Republic of Belarus several times and do not remember more successful business trips in my life," noted the governor. Special attention was paid to specific joint projects. Gleb Nikitin recalled the joint venture LLC "SP 'Nizhekotrans'," where the production of trams and electric buses "MiNin" has been established, as well as joint projects in the construction of general education schools in the Nizhny Novgorod Region — in Arzamas, Balakhna, and the village of Krutaya in Nizhny Novgorod. The head of the region spoke about the dynamics of bilateral trade and economic operations. According to the results of 2025, the trade turnover between the Nizhny Novgorod Region and the Republic of Belarus increased by 5% compared to 2024, while exports grew by 2% and imports by 8%. In addition, the parties discussed prospects for cooperation in the field of information technology, agriculture, as well as the holding of the anniversary XX meeting of the Council for Business Cooperation between the Nizhny Novgorod Region and the Republic of Belarus in Nizhny Novgorod in 2026. Special attention was paid to cooperation in shipbuilding. "First of all, this is a question of how we will further establish our cooperative ties, as well as the issue of production and localization of river vessels together with the enterprise we have in the Brest region, in Pinsk. It is important to understand how to establish this, what nodes-aggregates could be produced, and how to apply them. In this, we see a certain promising task to reach this level," said Yuri Seliverstov. The importance of interaction between the region and the Republic of Belarus was noted by Olga Guseva. "In addition to the flagship projects already implemented, we have many other joint initiatives — this includes the participation of cadets from the Minsk Suvorov Military School in events for Victory Day in Nizhny Novgorod, and the reciprocal visit of our cadets to the Republic of Belarus to participate in the celebrations dedicated to our common holiday, and the annual participation of Belarusian IT companies in the CIPR conference, and much more. The Nizhny Novgorod Region is always open to further expanding the horizons of cooperation, and we will continue to work on developing bilateral interaction in all key sectors," emphasized Olga Guseva.
