Roubles and yuans: more than 20 counterfeit banknotes discovered in the Nizhny Novgorod region. According to the press service of the Volga-Vyatka branch of the Bank of Russia, in the first quarter of 2026, 19 Russian banknotes with signs of forgery were identified in the banking sector of the Nizhny Novgorod region. The majority of the discovered counterfeits — 9 pieces — are of the denomination of 1,000 roubles. They accounted for 47% of all identified counterfeit banknotes. Also, six counterfeits of 5,000 roubles, one of 2,000 roubles, two of 500 roubles, and one of 100 roubles were identified from January to March.
