      May 24, 2026 16:59 Incidents A second criminal case has been opened against a Nizhny Novgorod major who caused a mass traffic accident on the Pokhvalinsky exit. As reported by the press service of the Main Directorate of the Ministry of Internal Affairs of Russia for the region, a case has been initiated against the 21-year-old perpetrator of the accident under Article 267.1 of the Criminal Code of the Russian Federation (actions threatening the safety of vehicle operation). He could face up to two years in prison. The police reported that after the accident on May 20, video footage from surveillance cameras was collected and analyzed, clearly showing a yellow Mercedes-Benz SL convertible. The driver was swerving on the road and driving into oncoming traffic on the Nizhnevolzhskaya embankment, creating obstacles for other vehicles. Evaluating the driving style of the son of the former head of "Luidor," the traffic police forwarded the collected materials to the investigative department of the Ministry of Internal Affairs in Nizhny Novgorod. The damaged vehicle of the suspect, previously seized by the traffic police as part of the administrative investigation, will be confiscated. The police are currently searching for the perpetrator of the accident to subsequently bring him to the investigative authorities. On the morning of May 24, it became known about the first criminal case against the Nizhny Novgorod major. It was initiated by the Investigative Committee. The progress of the investigation is under the control of the head of the Investigative Committee, Alexander Bastrykin.
