A network of 3000 electric taxis will be created in Nizhny Novgorod.

May 20, 2026 18:14 Society The administration of Nizhny Novgorod will support the initiative of the company "Nizhegorodets Vostok" for the development of an urban electric taxi network. The memorandum of intent was signed by Mayor Yuri Shalabaev and the company's General Director Valery Volodchenko during the CIPR-2026 conference. The document provides for a phased introduction of up to 3,000 electric vehicles that will operate as passenger taxis by 2030. The municipality intends to provide informational support for the project, assist in creating the necessary infrastructure, and consider the possibility of providing existing support measures within the framework of federal, regional, and municipal legislation. The agreement is valid until December 31, 2030. Yuri Shalabaev emphasized that the city had previously collaborated with the company on the implementation of electric vehicles and the creation of charging stations.

"The company has established itself as a reliable partner, fulfilling its promises and intentions. Now it has set quite ambitious plans - the creation of a network of electric taxis consisting of three thousand units," he noted.

According to the mayor, the implementation of the project will contribute to the development of eco-friendly transport and reduce the negative impact of cars on the environment. In addition, it will make movement around the city more comfortable for residents and tourists. Valery Volodchenko, for his part, reported that before scaling the project, the company went through a pilot phase. He explained that the most challenging part was putting the first 300-400 vehicles into operation; however, this phase allowed for the resolution of all organizational and technical issues. At the CIPR-2026 venue (12+), the company presented several electric vehicles decorated in the orange color of the "Capital of Sunsets" brand. The regional Ministry of Transport proposed using the orange color as a unified color scheme for passenger taxis. At the end of April, the Legislative Assembly of the Nizhny Novgorod Region adopted a draft law in the first reading to introduce such a requirement.
