An 8.5-year prison sentence was given to a young man from Nizhny Novgorod for the brutal murder of a passerby.

      The Avtozavodsky District Court of Nizhny Novgorod issued a verdict against a minor who was found guilty of murder with particular cruelty for hooligan motives. The young man will spend 8 years and 6 months in a correctional colony, as reported by the OPS of the courts of general jurisdiction in the Nizhny Novgorod region.

      As established by the court, the tragedy occurred on the evening of July 19, 2025. The teenager, along with an acquaintance, approached a passerby on the street and asked for cigarettes. The man refused, after which a conflict broke out between them. The investigation and the court concluded that the refusal was only a minor reason for aggression.

      According to the case materials, the teenager and his companion began to beat the man, striking him in the head and body. From the injuries sustained, the victim died on the spot. The girl involved in the attack had not reached the age of criminal responsibility. In addition to the sentence in the correctional colony, the court partially satisfied the civil claim of the victim's side. The convicted person was ordered to pay 158,000 rubles in material damages, as well as 2 million rubles in compensation for moral harm.

      The verdict has not yet entered into legal force and can be appealed.
