On the eve of Victory Day, Nizhny Novgorod residents were awarded the "Father of a Soldier" medals.

      On May 9, 2026, at 11:39, Society In anticipation of Victory Day, a ceremony was held at the Corporate University of the Government of the Nizhny Novgorod Region (KUPNO) to award the public recognition medal "Father of a Soldier." The event was organized by KUPNO, the regional branch of the All-Russian Public Movement "Fathers of Russia," and the regional government.

      The ceremony was attended by State Duma Deputy Yuri Stankevich, Deputy of the Nizhny Novgorod Regional Duma Vasily Sukhanov, Chairman of the Nizhny Novgorod City Duma Evgeny Chintsov, Vice-Rector for Development of KUPNO and Head of the Nizhny Novgorod Regional Branch of the All-Russian Public Movement "Volunteers of Victory" Maria Samodelkina, as well as Chairman of the Regional Branch of the All-Russian Public Movement "Fathers of Russia" Dmitry Isaev.

      Yuri Stankevich emphasized that the feat of any defender of the Fatherland begins with the family. He noted that a hero is someone who lives honestly, stands up for their position, honors their ancestors, and is ready to defend the country. The deputy also pointed out that the awarded fathers raised true heroes, who proved their loyalty to the people and Russia through personal courage.

      Among the awardees were fathers of participants in the special military operation who were honored with state awards, as well as men serving on the front lines alongside their children.

      Evgeny Chintsov noted that fatherly upbringing, reinforced by courageous actions, is especially valuable. He shared instances when fathers came to visit their children in the special military operation zone and carried out combat tasks together with them. Chintsov emphasized that the awarding of the "Father of a Soldier" medals, timed to coincide with Victory Day, serves as a reminder of the necessity of courage, resilience, and readiness for self-sacrifice in the fight against neo-Nazism and fascism.

      Maria Samodelkina added that the ceremony is a sign of respect for fathers who have raised worthy sons and instilled in them the main values: loyalty to the Motherland and readiness to defend the country. She emphasized that the personal example of fathers shapes character and attitude towards the history of the Fatherland.

      Dmitry Isaev, for his part, stated that the awarding of the "Father of a Soldier" medal on the eve of the 81st anniversary of the Great Victory symbolizes the struggle against the fascist threat, just as in the years of the Great Patriotic War. He also noted the symbolism of establishing the medal on May 9.

      In addition, during the ceremony, medals "For Support of the Special Military Operation" and letters of gratitude for assistance to participants of the special military operation from unit commanders were presented.
