Young artists presented a performance in Dzerzhinsk based on the stories of Ray Bradbury.
The performance by the novice artists made the audience cry and think. The Youth Theater "Prizma" at the Palace of Culture of Chemists concluded its creative season with a loud and poignant premiere. The worlds of Ray Bradbury came to life on stage in the play "About People and Rain," created based on the cult stories "All Summer in One Day" and "The Smile." Talking about the plot means trying to retell the music. It is something that needs to be experienced, to be felt. As the folk wisdom goes, it's better to see something once than to hear about it a hundred times. And this rule works here one hundred percent. Under the guidance of the renowned theater and film actress Elena Kalabina, the young artists of "Prizma" accomplished a true feat. Their performance on stage unfolds a real drama about choice, conscience, and hope. They didn't just play roles – they lived the fates of their characters, filling the hall with genuine emotions. "For me, a play is good when it can 'hit' you emotionally, make you laugh, make you cry," noted one of the audience members, Yulia Kanzerova. "And this play is just that. Tears flowed for most in the hall. Thank you to the author and director Elena Kalabina for the wonderful production. I believe that Elena Vladimirovna is a true find for Dzerzhinsk, for the DKH, and for every teenager who communicated with her and learned from her." The play weaves together two eternal themes. On one hand, it is a story about the courage to be oneself, about the confrontation of a bright personality against a gray, faceless crowd. On the other hand, it is a bitter reflection on how adults, by destroying the world around them, deprive their own children of moral guidelines and a future. In other words, the play "About People and Rain" is not just a final production; it is a bold statement from the younger generation that asks uncomfortable questions and seeks answers.
A word from the director
Elena Kalabina, head of the club formation at DKH:
"The premiere of the Youth Theater 'Prizma' is a long and very personal story for me. In 2025, it will be 105 years since the birth of Ray Bradbury – an author whose works have accompanied me since childhood. Initially, we planned to turn to the novel 'Fahrenheit 451,' but ultimately chose two stories in which the theme of the confrontation between the individual and the crowd resonates particularly sharply. It was important for us that the young artists not only played this story but lived it and pondered: why is it so easy to dissolve into the general mass and how difficult it is to maintain one's voice. This play is about the light within a person that does not disappear even in the coldest and soulless world. About the future that we are already creating now. And about the hope that remains if we give ourselves the courage to feel, see, and choose. For us, it was important not only to tell this story but also to create it visually – a world where there is almost no love, but light is still possible. And I believe we managed to leave that feeling of hope for the audience."
