On April 29, 2026, at 14:12 Society, a large fire occurred in Nizhny Novgorod, resulting in the deaths of about 200 dogs. The fire broke out at the "Voronikhinsky Souvenir" kennel, which specialized in breeding Pomeranian spitzes and Chihuahuas. The editorial office of NIA "Nizhny Novgorod" contacted the breeder Tatiana. The woman admitted that it was difficult for her to talk about what happened. According to preliminary reports, the cause of the fire could have been a stove. "The firefighters say it was from the stove. I had a non-electric, wood-burning stove. Somehow it happened from it... I don't know how it all happened," she said.

She learned about the fire early in the morning. "At 5:20 they woke me up. I ran, opened the door, and there was already smoke. And they were silent, all the little dogs suffocated," the breeder added. At the time of the fire, there were spitzes and Chihuahuas in the building. Other structures on the site were not damaged. The fire destroyed only the kennel building. The exact cause of the ignition is being established by the Ministry of Emergency Situations investigators.
