      The previously unknown growth point of the Sarcosoma globosum mushroom in our region was discovered by Olga Nikolaevna Paklina - an organizer-educator at the Eco Station of the Nizhny Novgorod Region. Information about this has been posted on the social media page of the project "Treasures of Biodiversity of the Nizhny Novgorod Region: searching, studying, preserving."

      In the Red Book of Russia 2017, there was only one location in the region where this rare mushroom is found - in the Pizhemsky Reserve. Later, volunteers discovered three more locations of Sarcosoma globosum. And now - the fifth find in nine years.

      This mushroom is also called "witch's cauldron" - it is listed in the Red Book of Russia and is protected worldwide. Collecting it is prohibited - Sarcosoma globosum is considered an endangered species in some regions of the world.

      In Russia, there are many legends associated with this mushroom: it is believed that the "witch's cauldron" has a rejuvenating effect. However, these myths have no scientific confirmation.
