A resident of the Vachsky district became a victim of fraudsters and lost 2.5 million rubles.

On April 18, 2026, at 10:23, Incidents: A 69-year-old woman from the Vachsky district became a victim of remote scammers and lost all her savings. This was reported by the press service of the Main Directorate of the Ministry of Internal Affairs for the region. The pensioner told the police that she received calls from unknown individuals who posed as law enforcement officers and other government officials. The criminals convinced the woman that she was allegedly involved in illegal activities and was a sponsor of a hostile state. They said that to "cancel the suspicious operation," she needed to transfer money. Following the scammers' instructions, the woman withdrew her savings over the course of a week and transferred them to the accounts they dictated to her. As a result, she lost more than 2.5 million rubles. After some time, the woman realized she had been deceived and contacted the police. A criminal case was opened on the grounds of "fraud." Police officers urge citizens to be vigilant when communicating with strangers over the phone. Under no circumstances should you carry out financial transactions or actions with money based on the instructions of third parties. If you receive a call asking for money transfers, bank accounts, or deposits, it may be a scam. Scammers often try to confuse the victim by switching them to representatives of different structures and agencies. Their goal is to engage in a prolonged conversation to prevent the person from regaining their composure and making a decision. The police recommend not continuing the conversation if it concerns your money; it is better to end the call. As previously reported, there has been an increase in fraudulent calls in the Nizhny Novgorod region, structured according to complex multi-stage scenarios.
