Nizhny Novgorod surgeons removed a cyst the size of an egg from a patient.
On April 13, 2026, at 10:34 AM, Society: Nizhny Novgorod surgeons removed a cyst the size of an egg from a patient. This was reported on his Max channel by the editor-in-chief of the medical publication "Stacionar-Press," Alexey Nikonov.
The man had lived for about 15 years with a small formation on his neck, which initially resembled a pea and did not cause significant discomfort. However, over time, the neoplasm began to grow rapidly and cause discomfort.
In the maxillofacial surgery department of the N.A. Semashko Nizhny Novgorod Regional Clinical Hospital, the patient was diagnosed with a midline neck cyst of unusually large size.
"The formation is congenital and benign; the growth starts suddenly, after an illness or injury, although for a long time it is felt only as a small pea in the neck area," explained maxillofacial surgeon Andrey Vedyashov from the Semashko Hospital.
Specialists note that such cysts arise due to developmental anomalies of the thyroglossal duct.
It was previously reported that surgeons at the N.O.K.B. simultaneously transplanted a pancreas and a kidney for the first time. The NIA "Nizhny Novgorod" has a Telegram channel.
