      On April 10, 2026, at 20:00, Incidents In the Nizhny Novgorod region, a group accused of embezzling social benefits amounting to 1.2 million rubles will stand trial. This was reported by the press service of the regional Main Directorate of the Ministry of Internal Affairs. According to the police, the illegal scheme was uncovered by employees of the economic security department of the Ministry of Internal Affairs of Russia in Arzamas in conjunction with the FSB in the region. A criminal case has been initiated against six individuals — two organizers and four accomplices. They are charged with fraud under parts 2 and 3 of Article 159 of the Criminal Code of the Russian Federation. The investigation established that two residents of the region decided to obtain additional funding for their business producing wooden furniture and organized a scheme to embezzle budget funds intended for supporting low-income and self-employed citizens. They sought individuals willing to participate in the scheme and offered to register as self-employed to receive social benefits for the development of supposedly their own furniture production. The organizers prepared the necessary documents, after which the received money was split in half. The accomplices spent their share at their discretion, while the organizers directed the funds towards purchasing woodworking equipment. For reporting purposes, the defendants used documents about supposedly acquired equipment, as well as forged papers confirming the targeted use of the benefits. As a result, 1.2 million rubles of budget funds were embezzled. During the investigation, the property of the accused was seized, and part of the damage — 150 thousand rubles — was voluntarily compensated. The investigation has been completed, and the criminal case has been sent to the Arzamas City Court for substantive consideration. The maximum penalty under the article provides for up to 6 years of imprisonment. Earlier, it was reported that law enforcement detained the director of the Arzamas Medical College.
