The deputies of the ZSNO are strengthening open dialogue with the youth.
April 9, 2026 16:15 Society At the invitation of the deputies of the Legislative Assembly, several delegations of young guests got acquainted with the history and present day of the main legislative body of the region. High school students from School No. 118 in the Moscow District of Nizhny Novgorod visited. This educational institution is renowned for its work in patriotic education: it has a "YUNARMIA" class, where students engage seriously in initial military training, drill, and firearms training, as well as conduct their own research on patriotic topics. Their introduction to the parliament began with a tour of the historic building in the Kremlin. The students saw unique archival documents and photographs, learned how the work of deputies has changed over the decades, and what important decisions for the region were made here. After the tour, staff members of the Legislative Assembly held an intellectual quiz for the students. The questions concerned the history of the regional parliament, the powers of deputies, and the activities of notable Nizhny Novgorod residents. In answering the questions, the students demonstrated a true creative approach and serious preparation. The highlight of the meeting was a conversation in the meeting hall, where Vasily Sukhanov, the chairman of the committee on urban development, property, and land relations, shared his experiences with the guests. The students asked him about his childhood, sports interests, how he entered politics, and what the committee, which is also responsible for preserving the historic buildings that adorn Nizhny Novgorod, is doing today.
"The students asked me how I became a deputy. In my childhood, I played hockey at the 'Vodnik' stadium in ordinary felt boots because there was no other gear. I came home soaked to the skin, did my homework, and ran back again. And no one thought to complain. Then there was the army, studying at the institute, and working at a factory. Only after going through this path did I enter politics. The most important thing is the ability to communicate with people and not be afraid of difficulties. Gadgets and the internet are good, but live communication and friendship truly make a person strong. And you are incredibly lucky to study at School No. 118, one of the best in the region. Value this," said Vasily Sukhanov.
The Legislative Assembly was also visited by cadets from the Nizhny Novgorod Count Arakcheev Cadet Corps and the Moscow Maritime Cadet Classes. This is symbolic, as more than 160 years ago, starting in 1864, the same building housed a cadet corps. Future officers took their oaths here, and in the family of one of the educators, the founder of aerobatics, Pyotr Nesterov, was born. The meeting became a living bridge between glorious history and modernity: the revived cadet corps continues traditions, and deputies are always happy to tell young people about their work. "Such events in the Legislative Assembly take place regularly. Deputies and staff members are convinced: the sooner young people understand the principles of government work, the more conscious their civic position will be in the future. The parliament is always open for tours and live communication, so that every guest can see: lawmaking is not a boring procedure, but the responsible work of people who sincerely love their region," noted the speaker of the regional parliament, Evgeny Lyulin.
