Six thousand consecrated Easter cakes will be sent to Nizhny Novgorod residents in the SVO zone.

      On April 9, 2026, at 17:43 Society In Nizhny Novgorod, Easter cakes were consecrated, which will be sent to the servicemen of the Nizhny Novgorod garrison in the area of the special military operation. This was reported on the website of the Nizhny Novgorod Metropolis. The consecration ceremony took place on April 9, on Holy Thursday, after the Divine Liturgy at the Alexander Nevsky Cathedral. It was conducted by Metropolitan Georgy (Danilov) of Nizhny Novgorod and Arzamas on the territory of the church. Representatives of the clergy of the diocese participated in the event, including the secretary of the diocesan administration, Priest Alexander Tenkaev, the cathedral's keyholder, Priest Artem Muzhichenkov, as well as the head of the department for interaction with the Armed Forces of the Russian Federation, Archpriest Alexander Malafeev.

      For Easter, it is planned to send 6,000 cakes to the SVO zone, made at the Sormovsky Bread Factory. Along with them, letters and drawings from students of Orthodox gymnasiums with words of support, wishes for health, and congratulations on the holiday of the Bright Resurrection of Christ will be sent to the servicemen. Before the consecration, Metropolitan Georgy addressed those gathered. He noted that the cakes and Easter greetings are sent "from all of Nizhny Novgorod land," adding that the residents of the region care about the servicemen, pray for them, and await their return.

      The diocese reminded that this is not the first time such an action is being held: the first shipment of Easter cakes to SVO participants took place in 2024, also on Holy Thursday.
