      Three schools in Nizhny Novgorod became finalists in the "Movements of the First" grant competition in 2026. The institutions will receive financial support to implement their initiatives. This was reported by the city education department. Seventy-six regions of Russia submitted their projects for the competition. The expert commission identified 496 winning projects from 3,506 applications, which will now receive financial support. The finalists from Nizhny Novgorod include Lyceum No. 165 named after the 65th anniversary of "GAZ," School No. 51, and School No. 88 "Novinskaya."

      Lyceum No. 165 named after the 65th anniversary of "GAZ" presented the project "Biathlon - at School," aimed at organizing and conducting a cycle of military-sports games for students in the Avtozavodsky district with the participation of veterans of combat operations and participants of the SVO as mentors, instructors, and judges.

      School No. 51 reached the finals with the regional social-educational project "215 Years on Guard of the Motherland," within which a series of joint events involving servicemen of the Russian National Guard is planned.

      School No. 88 "Novinskaya" presented a project for the festival "Unity of the Peoples of Russia," in which students from 14 schools in the Prioksky district will participate to showcase the best cultural traditions of the peoples of Russia.

      As noted by the organizers of the grant competition, in the new season, participants were evaluated by an expert council, which included educators, scientists, television and radio presenters, staff from additional education centers, methodologists, counselors, mentors, heads of school sports clubs, Ministry of Internal Affairs employees, children's rights commissioners, and many others. Experts selected the best proposed topics based on several criteria: relevance of the project, social impact, innovativeness of forms and mechanisms of implementation, and others.

      "Particular attention in 2026 is paid to projects reflecting the key theme of the year - the unity of the peoples of Russia. Many initiatives are aimed at strengthening intercultural dialogue, developing civic responsibility, preserving traditions, and creating a space for communication, cooperation, and joint creativity of children and youth from different regions of the country," the organizers noted.

      Earlier, in his social media, the head of the city, Yuri Shalabaev, reported that Nizhny Novgorod schools are among the best in Russia: Gymnasium No. 2 and School No. 22, based on the results of the remote stage of the VIII All-Russian competition "Successful School," entered the national rating "100 Leading Schools of Education in the Russian Federation - 2026."
