600 lives were saved in the Nizhny Novgorod region thanks to pre-abortion consultations.

      On April 5, 2026, at 12:36, Society Governor Gleb Nikitin reported that the "Emergency Demographic Assistance" project in the Nizhny Novgorod region helped save more than 600 lives in 2025. The initiative is being implemented as part of the program for achieving demographic sustainability "FOUNDATION." The project aims to support women in crisis situations: they are provided with free psychological, social, and legal assistance, as well as help in understanding state support measures. "Thanks to quality pre-abortion counseling, more than 600 lives were saved in 2025. Each has its own story," the governor of the Nizhny Novgorod region wrote on his MAX channel. As an example, he cited a family where the spouses were raising five children and were expecting twins. The older children did not support their mother's decision to carry the pregnancy to term, and the family faced a difficult choice. Specialists from the Institute of Demographic Development came to the rescue: they worked with the parents and children, helped to improve relationships, prepared the woman for childbirth, and provided a nanny. As a result, the family became parents of seven children — six daughters and a son. According to Nikitin, the boy was born thanks to the preserved pregnancy, and regional authorities will continue to assist the family in creating comfortable conditions for raising children. The head of the region emphasized that, despite difficult life circumstances, the parents direct all their efforts toward raising children who grow up in an atmosphere of care and love. State support measures play an important role in this. "We strive for a targeted approach: it is important to understand the specific situation, comprehend people's needs, and offer exactly the help that is needed here and now," concluded the governor. It was previously reported that the number of abortions in the Nizhny Novgorod region has decreased fivefold over the past ten years. Also, we remind you that the birth rate in the region has for the first time exceeded the average for the Volga Federal District. Work to stabilize demographics is being carried out as part of the national project "Family." By the governor's decision, the period from 2025 to 2030 has been declared the Family Five-Year Period in the region.
