The former rector of NGLU, Zhanna Nikonova, will be tried for embezzling millions.

      On April 3, 2026, at 17:32, Incidents: Former rector of NGLU named after Dobrolyubov, Zhanna Nikonova, and two of her former employees will stand trial for embezzlement and abuse of office, the Nizhny Novgorod prosecutor's office reported.

      It has been established that from April 2023 to November 2024, Nikonova, with the assistance of her subordinates, awarded university staff unjustifiably inflated one-time incentive bonuses and compensation payments, which they subsequently embezzled.

      In total, according to the prosecutor's office, they stole 5.5 million rubles from the university.

      Also, from March 2023 to October 2024, Nikonova, along with one of the accused, entered into 88 contracts with students under the guise of conducting research work for the provision of paid educational services. The damage exceeded 1.3 million rubles in unpaid taxes.

      Recall that former NGLU rector Zhanna Nikonova was detained in February 2025. Initially, the court placed her under house arrest, but later softened the preventive measure.

      The case materials with the indictment have been transferred to the Nizhny Novgorod District Court.

      It was previously reported that former vice-rector of PIMU Sergey Vozhikov will be prosecuted for fraud. The case against former head of the Nizhny Novgorod branch of RANEPA, Alexander Paramonov, has also been sent to court.
