Two Nizhny Novgorod universities made it into the top ten most sports-oriented universities in Russia.
March 30, 2026 14:41 Sports Two universities from Nizhny Novgorod became winners in the nomination "Most Sports University in Russia" based on the results of the fourth season of the "People's Games GTO Sportloto." The Nizhny Novgorod State Engineering and Economic University (Knyaginino) took fourth place. The National Research Nizhny Novgorod State University named after N.I. Lobachevsky ranked sixth. Both universities showed outstanding results in the fourth season of the project. At Knyagininsky University, 1,458 students participated in the "People's Games GTO Sportloto," while 1,119 students participated at Lobachevsky University.
Engaging residents in participating in the standards of the All-Russian Physical Culture and Sports Complex "Ready for Labor and Defense" is one of the tasks of the state program "Sport of Russia."
Also, within the framework of the fourth season of the "People's Games GTO Sportloto," open training sessions were held at both educational institutions with the project ambassador Kirill Belsky, the winner of the third season of the show "Titans" on TNT.
The open training session with Kirill Belsky as part of the "People's Games GTO Sportloto" was attended by the Minister of Sports of the Nizhny Novgorod Region Dmitry Kabailo.
"Students are the future of our country, and their health is one of our main priorities. Sports not only strengthen physical condition but, as practice shows, increase efficiency and contribute to achieving success. In the Nizhny Novgorod region, we systematically approach the development of student sports, striving to create conditions where physical education becomes not just an academic discipline but a conscious daily choice. The project 'People's Games GTO Sportloto' fully aligns with this philosophy, helping the younger generation become stronger, improve their health, and achieve high results. We express our gratitude to the GTO Federation of Russia for creating such significant projects," said Dmitry Kabailo.
Dmitry Kabailo also participated in the fourth season of the "People's Games GTO Sportloto." By his personal example, he proved that the project is accessible to everyone: videos can be recorded at any convenient time, and the exercise complexes are suitable for people with different levels of physical fitness, as well as for athletes with disabilities.
Earlier, on March 14-15, the GTO Federation of Russia held a nationwide draw for 10 free tickets to the final of the fourth season of the "People's Games GTO Sportloto" "Hero of GTO," in which two athletes from the Nizhny Novgorod region - Anastasia Mikhaleva and Anastasia Reutova - won. Both athletes tested their strength in the online season in the "Going for a Record" category.
A total of 19,210 applications were submitted in the fourth season, and compared to the third season, the number of participants with disabilities increased sixfold.
"The 'People's Games GTO Sportloto' is the only competition of its kind in Russia. Our complexes include all basic exercises. To complete the complex, you only need to either pull up or do push-ups. It's that simple. And most importantly, by participating in our project, you become happier and healthier," noted Vladimir Voitekhovsky, the Secretary General of the GTO Federation of Russia.
"The 'People's Games GTO Sportloto' are online competitions in GTO multi-sport aimed at developing mass sports and promoting physical activity. Following each season, a live final "Hero of GTO" is held in various cities across Russia. This is a sports complex consisting of a running distance and five consecutive functional exercises. It is adapted for different ages and levels of physical fitness, including for people with disabilities.
Let us remind you that starting in 2025, a state program "Development of Physical Culture and Sports" (state program "Sport of Russia") began to operate in Russia by the order of President Vladimir Putin, which implements tasks previously outlined in the federal project "Sport is a Norm of Life" of the national project "Demography."
The state program "Sport of Russia" aims to create and improve conditions for engaging in physical activity, promote mass sports, and enhance the quality of life and satisfaction of Russians. It plans to expand sports infrastructure, conduct mass sporting events, and engage residents in participating in the standards of the All-Russian Physical Culture and Sports Complex "Ready for Labor and Defense." The development of children's sports will also continue in the country, and opportunities for sports participation for veterans of the SVO will be expanded.
