Calls to expand regional allowances for police officers have been made in the Nizhny Novgorod region.

      March 27, 2026 17:21 Economy The head of the Main Directorate of the Ministry of Internal Affairs of Russia for the Nizhny Novgorod region, Yuri Arsentyev, has requested to expand the list of employees eligible for regional salary supplements. He made this proposal to the deputies during his report at the meeting of the Legislative Assembly of the Nizhny Novgorod region on March 27. According to the lieutenant general, due to a significant staff shortage, all units are being involved in maintaining law and order without exception. In this regard, he suggested extending additional payments to all employees involved in public order protection. Arsentyev emphasized that the workload on police officers remains high and requires full commitment. At the same time, employees are fully compensated for the combination of job responsibilities and overtime work, and are provided with the legally mandated benefits and vacations. Since 2016, the shortage of personnel in the regional department has increased from 7% to 29%. Currently, every second position in the patrol service is vacant, as well as every third among district officers, criminal investigation officers, and preliminary investigation bodies. One of the possible ways to replenish the personnel is to involve veterans of the Special Military Operation (SMO). The governor of the Nizhny Novgorod region, Gleb Nikitin, who was present at the meeting, stated that regional authorities will continue to support the system as much as possible, including assisting with the repair of police station premises. At the same time, the head of the region emphasized that the issue of increasing salaries for Ministry of Internal Affairs employees should be raised at the federal level. According to him, the ongoing staff shortage could pose a serious threat in the future. It was previously reported that a monthly social payment of 10,000 rubles has been introduced in Nizhny Novgorod for police officers ensuring public order and safety.
