Nizhny Novgorod residents joined the All-Russian competition "Master of the Year."
March 19, 2026 20:13 Society More than 450 teachers from Nizhny Novgorod colleges and technical schools have joined the All-Russian professional skills competition "Master of the Year" this year. This is a record number of participants from the region in the history of the competition. As a result of the qualifying round, 145 people advanced to the regional stage of the competition. The annual competition is held by the Ministry of Education of Russia and the All-Russian Education Trade Union as part of the implementation of the national project "Youth and Children." The operator of the qualifying and regional stages in the Nizhny Novgorod region is the regional Ministry of Education. According to the department, the interest of teachers in the system of secondary vocational education in the competition is growing year by year. This season, representatives from 64 educational institutions in the region have applied for the competition. This indicates that vocational education teachers are focused on continuous professional growth and improving their skills. "In 2026, 456 Nizhny Novgorod teachers participated in the qualifying round of the 'Master of the Year' competition. For comparison, last year there were just over 230. We know that many colleagues were inspired by the success of Nikolai Satov from the Perevoz Construction College – last year, he took 7th place in the finals of the competition. I am confident that our region will perform well at the national level this year," noted the Minister of Education of the Nizhny Novgorod region, Mikhail Puchkov. The ministry reported that participants in the regional stage of the competition were selected based on their professional achievements, experience in preparing prize winners of student championships, accomplishments in teaching their subjects, experience in scientific work, and mentoring. The largest number of participants comes from the Nizhny Novgorod Industrial College, the Arzamas Commercial and Technical School, the Nizhny Novgorod Aviation Technical College, and the Lukoyanov Provincial College. A total of 68 teachers of individual subjects and professional modules, 57 teachers of general education subjects, and 20 masters of practical training will participate in the regional stage. According to a participant in the competition, Deputy Director of the Dzerzhinsk College of Business and Technology, Zhanna Fokina, participation in the "Master of the Year" competition gave her more confidence in her professional competencies. "The most important victory is the victory over my former self. I have developed a desire to share my experience and show students by my own example that they need to move forward and reach new heights. Thanks to the competition, I finally understood that I am on the right path by choosing to work in vocational education," she shared. On March 18, an educational intensive "Competition 'Master of the Year': Experience, Practice, Results" was organized for participants in the regional stage of the competition. Specialists clarified the main requirements and evaluation criteria for the competition tasks at both the regional and national levels. The prizewinner of the All-Russian "Master of the Year" competition in 2025, Nikolai Satov, conducted an authorial open lesson, which was recognized as the best in the country. "I conducted my open lesson for participants in the regional stage so that they could immerse themselves in the real conditions of performing competition tasks. This approach allowed them to understand the specifics of the competition more deeply and prepare for their own performances," explained Nikolai Satov, Deputy Director of the Perevoz Construction College. The regional stage of the "Master of the Year" competition will last until April 30. Contestants will need to demonstrate methodological competencies and experience in practical student training. Participants will present a video introduction "I am a Master," as well as conduct a master class of a real lesson with subsequent analysis. Let us remind you that the national project "Youth and Children" is being implemented on the instructions of the President of Russia, Vladimir Putin. It includes nine federal projects and programs: "Russia – a Land of Opportunities," "We Are Together," "Russia in the World," "All the Best for Children," "Leading Schools," "Teachers and Mentors," "Creating a Network of Modern Campuses," "Universities for the Generation of Leaders," and "Professionalism."
