Medical surveillance has been stepped up in the Nizhny Novgorod region after reports of a possible shipment of contaminated homemade horse sausage. According to the Telegram channel "Bokal Presseka", the product may have contained the causative agents of botulism.

Earlier, cases of poisoning were recorded in Kostroma and the Moscow Region. The victims had consumed homemade horse sausage. Despite an identified outbreak in the Kostroma Region, specialists do not rule out that the dangerous product could have reached other regions of the country, including the Nizhny Novgorod Region.

In this regard, regional medical staff have been advised to increase vigilance toward patients with signs of food poisoning. Special attention should be paid to two characteristic symptoms of botulism — the simultaneous onset of blurred and double vision, and pronounced dry mouth.

Recall that a botulism outbreak was recorded in 2024 in several regions, including the Nizhny Novgorod Region. Hundreds of people were affected and two died then.

Earlier, Nizhny Novgorod residents were warned about dangerous infant formulas.
