Residents of Nizhny Novgorod were warned about a heavy snowfall expected during the day on January 7 that may persist into the night of January 8.

According to the Federal State Budgetary Institution "Upper-Volga UGMS", intense precipitation in the form of snow is forecast in certain areas of the region and in the regional center, which could lead to serious consequences.

According to the forecast, the weather conditions may provoke traffic jams on federal, regional and local roads, as well as hinder the work of utilities and road services. The risk of an increase in the number of road traffic accidents is rising.

In addition, temporary disruptions to airport operations are possible. Heavy snow may also cause the collapse of individual structural elements of buildings due to increased snow load.

The Main Directorate of the Ministry of Emergency Situations of Russia for Nizhny Novgorod Oblast urges residents to observe safety measures. It is recommended to stay away from buildings and structures, especially in places where snow may slide off roofs. Rescuers also advise, if possible, to refrain from traveling by private vehicle. If travel cannot be avoided, drivers should keep a safe distance, avoid sudden maneuvers and reduce speed.

Recall that meteorologist Shuvalov said that up to half of the monthly precipitation norm could fall in one day of the forecasted snowfall.

Earlier it was reported that frosts down to -20 degrees Celsius will come to Nizhny Novgorod after Christmas.
