The first residents have moved into a new ten-story municipal building constructed in the Sormovsky district of Nizhny Novgorod on Zaitseva Street. The building is intended for the resettlement of citizens from dilapidated and unsafe housing. Mayor Yuri Shalabaev reported this on his social media.

The building contains 189 apartments — from one- to four-room units, fully finished and fitted with plumbing. The surrounding grounds include children's and sports playgrounds, as well as parking areas.

According to the head of the city, this is the second municipal building constructed this year under the new resettlement program. The first building is on Sadovaya Street, and residents have already begun moving in there as well.

Work continues on 40 Years of Victory Street. Construction of this municipal building is planned to be completed next year.

First Deputy Head of Administration Denis Skalkin visited the building at 26 Zaitseva Street with the new residents. He said that the tenants of the first 30 families have already received the keys to their apartments.

"People are moving in from different districts — Sormovsky, Moskovsky, there are even resettlers from the city center. We show the apartments, and only after the citizens agree do we formalize the exchange agreement and transfer ownership to them," Skalkin explained.

Sergey Razzhivin, General Director of MKU "GlavUKS of Nizhny Novgorod," stressed that the contractor was instructed to use only high-quality building materials during construction, and that requirement was met.

It should be noted that in 2025 Russia began implementing the national project "Infrastructure for Life," initiated by President Vladimir Putin. It is a continuation of the "Housing and Urban Environment" program and is aimed at providing citizens with modern and accessible infrastructure. The project includes 12 federal initiatives covering the development of the road network, utilities systems, public transport, and improving road safety.

Earlier it was reported that 34 unsafe buildings were demolished in Nizhny Novgorod in 2025. Overall, by 2030 it is planned to resettle more than 6,000 people from about 250 unsafe apartment buildings.
