Winter quietly descended upon the earth: Wink.ru knows how to warm December.
In December the days grow ever shorter and the evenings longer and colder, but there is a tried-and-true way to warm them. The online cinema Wink.ru (a joint venture of Rostelecom and NMG) has prepared an excellent collection of premieres for the first month of winter that will transport viewers to warm places and to different corners of the world, even to other worlds. In December audiences can expect new episodes and unexpected plot twists in series from the Wink Originals lineup: "Obnalshchik" (18+, meanwhile viewers are taken on a journey to the Russian Far East) and "Nam Poker" (18+, with Saint Petersburg appearing in one of the roles).
On the first day of winter Wink.ru offers a trip to the fictional yet so real universe of the Strugatsky brothers. Alexei German’s feature film Hard to Be a God (18+), based on the eponymous novella, has appeared on the platform. The film took a very long time to reach audiences — the director conceived it in 1964 but only began work more than 30 years later. Production lasted 13 years, but Alexei German did not live to finish it. The director’s vision was realized by his wife, collaborator and screenwriter Svetlana Karmelita, and his son, film director Alexei German Jr. The film was released in 2013. Wink.ru is actively preparing for the premiere of the first series based on the Strugatskys’ cult work, in which the story’s characters will be embodied by Sergey Bezrukov, Fyodor Bondarchuk, Viktoriya Isakova, Aleksandar Radojicic, Nikita Kologriviy, Fyodor Lavrov, Vladimir Yumatov and many other brilliant actors.
A journey to the beautiful mountain region of North Ossetia will be offered in December by the creators of the documentary project There, Where Our Home Is (12+). Alan Baisangurov and Valery Datiev are restoring a population of yaks in the highlands that was exterminated in the 1990s. Zaur Tedeev is an artist and photographer who has photographed Quentin Tarantino and other stars, but what truly matters to him are images from the lives of mountain hermits. Actress Leila Tebloeva, who after the tragic loss of her husband on the set of Sergey Bodrov Jr.’s film opens a theater inside her home together with actor Artur Khatagov. A united team of filmmakers from Ossetia, Siberia, Moscow, Kabardino-Balkaria and Karachay-Cherkessia worked on the film. The project was created with the assistance of the Fund for the Support of Regional Cinema; this is the third installment — the first two were filmed in the Republic of Khakassia and Krasnoyarsk Krai.
Viewers will be transported to the seashore by the film Nakhimov Cadets: Amber Shore (12+) — a new chapter in a teenage story about friendship and true courage. Egor goes to study at the Nakhimov Naval School in Kaliningrad, where he must start from scratch: new friends, new rules, new challenges. To win respect and become one of them faster, the boy pretends to be the brother of the famous Nakhimov cadets the Loginovs and rides a wave of popularity. But soon he faces a real trial, dangerous not only for him — Egor confronts terrorists.
Once again the heroes invite you to St. Petersburg in the romantic comedy-drama Looks Like Love (12+). Liza visits St. Petersburg for the first time: she is young, beautiful and believes all her dreams will surely come true. The bridges extolled by poets, the embankments shrouded in legends, and the unique parties of St. Petersburg’s bohemia — this city knows how to enchant. Liza falls in love with the Northern Capital at first sight. But an unexpected acquaintance with a young artist and his friend, a musician, turns into a real adventure.
Viewers will find themselves in Turkey, popular with Russian tourists, in the series Windy Hill (18+). Khalil’s modest and poor family works for the wealthy Zeynep family. One day the employers accuse Khalil’s father of theft, and he ends up in prison. The son vows revenge on the wealthy family, works hard and eventually becomes a respected businessman. After his parents’ death Khalil returns to the city he once called home and begins to carry out his plan for revenge. Strong-willed Zeynep fights to save her family. Opposites attract — feelings begin to emerge between Khalil and Zeynep...
Dramas will take viewers to South Korea: Dear M (18+) and Switch the World (18+). The first follows students at Soyeon University who desperately need to find out who hides behind the pseudonym “M” in an anonymous online group. The second series tells the story of talented con man Sa Do-chan, who dreams of becoming a prosecutor. But something goes wrong and Sa Do-chan begins to fight crime by methods not available to official justice.
From the first space journey to Earth returns female astronaut Sam Walker. In the American thriller The Astronaut (16+) the capsule’s re-entry into the atmosphere goes awry: communication is lost, Sam’s body is covered in bruises and abrasions, the descent module is damaged and splashes down in the middle of the ocean. The heroine is rescued and placed under observation amid suspicions that extraterrestrial life came back to Earth with her.
And to return from faraway journeys one can come back to the familiar Our Garage (16+). In this 30-episode comedy seven friends rent an old garage that becomes their lair. Here they fall in love, quarrel, discover musical talents and realize that adult life does not always turn out as they imagined. But the local rich kid has his own plans for the garage. To protect their territory and interests, the friends have to call on luck, resourcefulness and the full power of modern technology.
There will also be journeys and adventures for children in December. Finnick 2 (6+) continues the adventures of the house spirit Finnick and his friends. Unexpectedly, Finnick awakens the ancient magic of the house-spirits’ staff and as a result loses the ability to be invisible. Now not only he but house spirits around the world are under threat. Finnick and Kristina must set off on a dizzying journey and overcome many trials to save the house spirits. On the eve of the New Year Wink.ru will present the Spanish-Portuguese animated film Furry Holidays (6+). Nine-year-old Maya dreams of incredible adventures. One day her parents decide to send her to summer camp, where she quickly makes a new friend — a shy boy named Ian. They accidentally learn that ambitious businessman Sebastian plans to cut down the forest and demolish their camp to build a parking lot. The friends are ready to do anything to stop these plans, and the fluffy forest inhabitants come to their aid.
A trip on a mortar (and more) will be offered by the heroine of the fantasy film Yaga on Your Head (6+). When ten-year-old Petya gets a new caregiver — strange and grumpy but incredibly charming — he quickly realizes she is not like everyone else. She is a “nanny undercover,” but in fact she is Yaga, the legendary witch who lost her mortar and hid among humans. Now only Petya can help her regain her magical powers, and Yaga can teach the boy to fly.
