The State Duma called the blocking of WhatsApp a matter of time.

      27 November 2025 11:15 Society. State Duma deputy for information policy Anton Nemkin expressed the view that the blocking of WhatsApp* in Russia is only a matter of time. According to him, Meta*, the owner of the service, is ignoring the demands of Russian regulators, failing to localize users' personal data, and facing a rise in cyberattacks.

      Thus, the number of incidents has increased 3.5 times, and users are increasingly encountering hacks, fraud and security problems.

      Nemkin noted that such actions by Meta* are unacceptable, especially in the context of threats to citizens' security. In his opinion, if a foreign service systematically breaks the rules and ignores the demands of Russian authorities, the question of its continued presence in the country becomes obvious.

      As 360.ru reports, in October users in some regions already reported disruptions in the operation of Telegram and WhatsApp*. Roskomnadzor confirmed the partial restriction of foreign messengers' operation, explaining this as a fight against fraud and the involvement of citizens in sabotage and terrorist activities. The agency also indicated that the service owners repeatedly ignored regulators' demands.
