Preparatory work has begun in the center of Nizhny Novgorod to create a new pedestrian zone on the section of Malaya Pokrovskaya Street — from Bolshaya Pokrovskaya to Architect Kharitonov Street. The project, previously proposed by activists of the Council of Young Families, has begun to be implemented as part of the street's major renovation.

According to the Municipal State Institution "Main Department for Construction and Repair of the Metro, Bridges and Road Networks", barrier gates are currently being installed on the specified section. One of them is being mounted at building No. 2A on Malaya Pokrovskaya, the second immediately past the intersection with Architect Kharitonov Street.

According to the city administration's plans, in the future this area will become a linking element between Bolshaya Pokrovskaya Street, the Pochainsky Ravine, where improvement works continue, and Ilyinskaya Street, which is also planned to be renovated. All elements of the space will be designed in a unified architectural style.

To complete the work the contractor will need to install drainage channels, tactile paving, road signs, bollards, and also to erect a new "Architectural and Construction University" bus shelter at the intersection with Gogol Street.

The project also provides for changes to traffic organization on the adjacent streets. Thus, the stretch of Malaya Pokrovskaya from Architect Kharitonov Street to Ilyinskaya will become two-way. In addition, several traffic light installations will be modernized: at the Communications Building on Gorky Square and at the intersection of Ilyinskaya and Maslyakova streets.

New traffic lights will also appear at the intersection of Bolshaya and Malaya Pokrovskaya, where Maslyakova Street meets Gorky Square, and on other nearby streets.

It was previously reported that repairs on Malaya Pokrovskaya in Nizhny Novgorod were 99% complete. It will remain closed to traffic until the end of 2025.

November 26, 2025, 16:54 Sport NIA "Nizhny Novgorod" — Polina Zubova On the morning of November 26 the Nagorny Sports and Entertainment Complex filled with Torpedo fans who had come to an open practice of their favorite team. During a week-long break between games in their home stretch, the club decided to please supporters and give them a chance to see behind the scenes of the training process. Although it was a weekday, the stands were far from empty. Some even skipped school to watch their favorite players. The first on the ice were goaltenders Denis Kostin and Ivan Kulbakov, accompanied by goalie coach Nikolai Khabibullin. A little later the skaters joined them. The practice lasted about an hour but was held at a high tempo with a variety of drills as intense as a full game. As in a match, there were broken sticks and pucks flying out of the rink, some of which were picked up as souvenirs by the luckiest fans. You couldn’t miss the coach — Alexey Isakov’s voice carried across the arena even over the lively hum of the stands. The session included team drills as well as individual work for defensemen, forwards and goalies. Although the team had a meeting with the coaching staff scheduled after the practice, Torpedo players handed out autographs and posed for photos. Fans were reluctant to let some players go. A correspondent from NIA "Nizhny Novgorod" managed to catch a few words from the Nizhny captain Alexey Kruchinin. He said that an open practice is not much different from a regular one: "Training is not a game, it’s a little different. Today we were told right away not to pay attention to the stands and to work in the same way. So the spectators just watch what the training process looks like from the inside. The fans didn’t distract us, everything’s fine." Tomorrow the club’s newcomer Vladimir Tkachev, who joined the team in a trade with Sibir, will begin practicing with the squad. On November 28 Torpedo will host Minsk’s Dinamo. This meeting (6+) will conclude Nizhny’s extended home stretch, after which they will head out on a three-game road trip in early December. Torpedo currently sit fourth in the Western Conference. Thanks to the break in the schedule, the team has almost evened out the number of games played with other clubs. They trail the conference leader, Yaroslavl’s Lokomotiv, by just two points. Earlier, Governor Gleb Nikitin spoke about what awaits the Nagorny complex after Torpedo’s move to the new arena, which, incidentally, is being postponed.
