Athletes from the Nizhny Novgorod Comprehensive Sports School "Nadezhda" triumphed at the International Courage Cup 2025.

      Athletes competed in seven age categories and in disciplines such as kumite, kata, and group kata.

      Students of Nizhny Novgorod’s Comprehensive Sports School "Nadezhda" won two gold and one silver medal at the open International Kyokushin Karate Tournament "Courage Cup 2025", which took place in Minsk (Republic of Belarus). As noted by the city’s Department of Physical Culture and Sports, the anniversary 10th edition of the tournament gathered athletes from 18 countries. Athletes competed in seven age categories and in disciplines such as kumite, kata, and group kata.

      The Nizhny Novgorod athletes represented their city and country with distinction: Arseniy Balandin won gold in the 12–13 years up to 35 kg category; Ignat Kurbonov became the winner in the 12–13 years up to 47.5 kg category; Serafim Kurbonov took silver in the 16–17 years up to 70 kg category.

      "It can be said with confidence that the success of our kids is the result of their hard work, perseverance and determination! We congratulate the athletes and the coach on their well-deserved awards! May this success become a new stimulus for achieving sporting heights!" said the department’s specialists.

      Recall that, at the initiative of the city’s head Yuri Shalabaev, the Center for School Sports Leagues and the Development of Sport of Nizhny Novgorod launched leagues in eight sports in the city’s schools: basketball, volleyball, athletics, mini-football, table tennis, floorball, hockey and chess.

      Earlier, the city head Yuri Shalabaev started a new sports tradition — awarding a Cup to the best player of the month. The first Cup was awarded to forward Maria Samoylova of the women's mini-football club "Normanochka". The award ceremony took place before the fourth round match of the Russian futsal championship 2025/2026 season, in which the Nizhny Novgorod team played the Penza club "Laguna-UOR" at the home court of the FOC "Meshchersky".

      Also, Mayor Yuri Shalabaev met with players from six Nizhny Novgorod sports clubs who received a new scholarship for promising young players of Nizhny Novgorod sports clubs. The youngsters have already finished sports schools and now play for the city’s professional clubs. As the city head noted, the scholarship will be a good motivation for athletes to stay in Nizhny Novgorod rather than move to other cities.
