Nizhny Novgorod took second place among Russia's largest cities in the quality of life index, according to the latest data from the analytical portal Numbeo. In the global ranking the city was in 165th place with a score of 147.9 points, ranking in the country only behind Kaliningrad.
The study covered 279 large and dynamically developing cities on all continents. Despite a slight decline compared with May — when the index was 152.02 — Nizhny Novgorod maintains a leading position among Russian and European cities, ahead of Moscow, St. Petersburg and a number of other metropolises.
The analysis was carried out across eight key criteria. Nizhny Novgorod received particularly high marks in healthcare — 74.5 points, which is the best result among the leading cities. The city also stands out for a high level of safety — 72.2 points.
Additional advantages are an affordable cost of living (34.5) and a moderate average commuting time — 27.1 minutes. The population's purchasing power is assessed at 56.1 points, which corresponds to the national average.
On the international stage Nizhny Novgorod demonstrates competitiveness, outranking major cities such as London, New York, Beijing, Delhi and Rio de Janeiro in quality of life. In terms of living comfort it approaches European capitals like Prague and Berlin.
Earlier it was reported that Nizhny Novgorod Region entered the top 30 by wage levels.
