A monumental graffiti dedicated to Senior Police Lieutenant Alexey Kudryavtsev, who was killed in the line of duty in the Chechen Republic, was solemnly unveiled in Nizhny Novgorod. The art object appeared on the facade of the Canine Service building of the Ministry of Internal Affairs directorate for Nizhny Novgorod Oblast as part of the regional initiative "Image of Victory."

The memorial image was initiated by activists from the Nizhny Novgorod branch of the "Volunteers of Victory" movement with the support of the Main Directorate of the Russian Ministry of Internal Affairs for Nizhny Novgorod Oblast. The graffiti, occupying an area comparable to the height of a three-story building, has become a symbol of remembrance for the officer’s feat, who gave his life in the fight against international terrorism.

Alexey Kudryavtsev served in the canine unit of the Internal Affairs Directorate of Nizhny Novgorod Oblast from 1982 to 1993. In 1996 he was killed in the North Caucasus while carrying out a combat mission. During the unit’s encirclement by militants he resisted to the end, covering his comrades. When he ran out of ammunition, he continued to save the wounded, carrying them out from under fire. During these actions he sustained a fatal wound.

The opening ceremony was attended by representatives of the regional MVD leadership, law enforcement veterans, members of public and patriotic organizations, as well as family and close friends of Alexey Kudryavtsev.

Police Major General Viktor Bortozhinov emphasized that Kudryavtsev’s deed is an example of the highest expression of professional duty and selflessness. He noted that colleagues still remember Alexey as a kind, modest man, devoted to his service and caring toward the service dogs.

Now the portrait of the canine-handler hero will greet everyone entering the city from the direction of Moscow. Maria Samodelkina, head of the Nizhny Novgorod branch of the "Volunteers of Victory," noted that such projects help preserve the living memory of heroes and bring history closer to everyone.

Earlier it was reported that a graffiti was unveiled in Nizhny Novgorod in honor of SMO hero Alouddin Mirzorakhimov.
