The Chairman of the State Duma, Vyacheslav Volodin, called for accelerating the rollout of special SIM cards for children, 360.ru reports. The speaker emphasized that this will require amendments to legislation, but deputies are ready to do so promptly.

Volodin noted that the number of cases in which children become victims of telephone and internet scammers has increased by 30% over the past two years. He also said that using children's SIM cards is aimed at restricting minors' access to undesirable content and certain online services.

According to Volodin, such measures will help protect children from the negative consequences of using the internet and mobile communications. He expressed confidence that the relevant ministry would be able to introduce children's SIM cards in the shortest possible time and ensure their availability to all who need them.

Recall that in August the Ministry of Digital Development proposed introducing special SIM cards in Russia for children up to 14 years old. When using such cards, some services would be restricted, for example access to social networks, and parents would be able to receive their children's geolocation data.

As previously reported, new rules for registering SIM cards are in effect in Russia: according to the law, no more than 20 SIM cards in total across all operators may be registered to a single Russian citizen.
