President Vladimir Putin signed a decree establishing a new state holiday — the Day of the Languages of the Peoples of the Russian Federation, reports 360.ru.

The text of the decree says the holiday was established "for the purpose of preserving and supporting the languages of the peoples of Russia." It will be celebrated annually on September 8. The decree came into force upon signing.

In addition, the head of state ordered the establishment of another holiday — the Day of the Indigenous Small-Numbered Peoples of the Russian Federation. It will be observed on April 30.

Recall that last year the Nizhny Novgorod region established Trade Unions Day. It is observed on November 16.
