Over the past year, the number of classical music fans in the Nizhny Novgorod region has increased by one-third.

In honor of the 200th anniversary of the birth of Johann Strauss Jr., the MTS Music service analyzed users' interest in world classical music and compiled a ranking of the most popular composers of past eras. The top three favorite composers of Nizhny Novgorod residents were: Antonio Vivaldi, Franz Schubert and Pyotr Tchaikovsky.
Austrian composer Johann Baptist Strauss entered music history as the "King of the Waltz." To mark his anniversary, MTS Music examined listening of world classical music. The number of plays of musical compositions by world classics in the period from April 2024 to October 2025 in Nizhny Novgorod Oblast increased by 30%, confirming the growing popularity of classical music among the region's residents. Among Nizhny Novgoroders' favorite composers were Italian composer Antonio Vivaldi, Austrian composer and one of the founders of musical Romanticism Franz Schubert, and the Russian genius of the 19th century Pyotr Tchaikovsky.
Among the most in-demand classical pieces for Nizhny Novgorod listeners were: "Storm" by Antonio Vivaldi in a virtuosic performance by Vanessa-Mae, the poignant "Ave Maria" by Franz Schubert, and a fragment of Pyotr Tchaikovsky's ballet The Nutcracker, Op. 71, Act II, Scene 3: No. 14, Pas de deux — Dance of the Sugar Plum Fairy and Prince Orshad, performed by the National Philharmonic Orchestra of Russia under the baton of Vladimir Spivakov.
