The Nizhny Novgorod Opera Theatre unveiled a new avant-garde curtain to mark its anniversary.

      In the autumn of 2025, the Nizhny Novgorod State Academic Opera and Ballet Theatre named after A. S. Pushkin is celebrating its 90th anniversary. In honor of this milestone, a grand gala concert, "Opera and Ballet – 90 Years of Inspiration," was organized and took place on 24 October.

      Leading performers from across Russia appeared on the theatre's stage, drawing an enthusiastic audience. The evening became a true celebration of the arts, where the beauty of classical works and the innovative ideas of the future were harmoniously intertwined. The concert program included both pieces that have already become classics and new, experimental compositions that the theatre is ready to present to audiences.

      As Nizhny Novgorod Oblast Governor Gleb Nikitin wrote on his Telegram channel, ahead of the anniversary the theatre unveiled a new curtain inspired by a painting by the well-known Nizhny Novgorod avant-gardist Mikhail Matyushin. His opera "Victory over the Sun" is considered one of the brightest examples of the Russian musical avant-garde. The curtain, executed in the style of that work, became a symbol of the theatre's new creative horizons and bold experiments.
