Rescue workers carried out fire drills on the roof of a 26-story building in Nizhny Novgorod.

      In the Sovietsky District of Nizhny Novgorod, experimental research exercises for firefighters were held, organized by the Main Directorate of EMERCOM of Russia for Nizhny Novgorod Oblast. The drill took place under conditions as close as possible to a real emergency.

      According to the agency’s press service, the venue was a 26-story residential building located on Heroes of Donbass Avenue. The main task of the exercises was to practice the procedure for delivering firefighting agents to the building’s roof — a situation in which elevator use is impossible due to fire.

      EMERCOM personnel laid a hose line through smoke-free stairwells to ensure water delivery to the upper floors. A flexible tank was installed on the 15th floor and filled with water using a motor pump. From there, water was supplied to the simulated fire source.

      In addition, firefighters ran another line to the roof using rope rigging. It was connected to a tanker truck, providing a steady water supply to the top of the building.

      The final stage of the exercise was the evacuation of a simulated casualty from the high-rise roof by helicopter.

      According to Alexander Krupnov, Deputy Head of the Directorate — Head of the Firefighting Organization and Search and Rescue Department of the Main Directorate of EMERCOM of Russia for Nizhny Novgorod Oblast, the drill was conducted under conditions as close to real ones as possible.

      “Such exercises allow personnel to practice actions not only in theory, but also in practice,” he noted.

      The event involved 68 personnel and seven units of specialized equipment.
