Nizhny Novgorod road services are switching to winter operations.

      The region's road services are fully prepared to operate in cold and snowy conditions, the director of the Main Directorate of Highways of the Nizhny Novgorod Region, Leonid Samukhin, said at a meeting of the regional traffic safety commission.

      In winter, 15 contracting organizations and three specialized bridge services will be responsible for maintaining the regional road network. All of them switched to around-the-clock operation on October 15.

      Before the onset of cold weather, specialists inspected drainage systems, repaired minor pavement damage, and prepared equipment for winter maintenance.

      According to Leonid Samukhin, the GUAD dispatch service is already ready to promptly provide contractors with information about possible deteriorations in weather conditions. This will allow roads and bridges to be treated with anti-icing materials in advance.

      To respond in a timely manner to snowfalls and ice, meteorological information is used for key road sections — both in real time and as forecasts for the next 60 hours.

      In addition, laboratory testing of reagents purchased by the contractors continues in October. This is necessary to verify their effectiveness and compliance with standards.

      It was previously reported that wet snow is possible at night in the Nizhny Novgorod Region from October 20 to 24.
