The Nizhny Novgorod District Court granted the prosecution's petition and ordered pretrial detention until December 9. The investigator insisted on the arrest, noting that if released the defendant could influence witnesses or destroy evidence.
According to the case materials, in 2023 the "Nizhny Novgorod Volunteer Service" received a grant of more than 6 million rubles from the regional budget. The organization spent about 2.5 million on the declared works, and the remaining funds, according to investigators, were transferred by Zhiltsov to personal accounts.
At the hearing, Zhiltsov asked to be released under house arrest, assuring the court that he did not intend to go into hiding. He fully admitted his guilt and gave a confession.
According to the network of NGO resource centers of the Volga Federal District, Andrey Zhiltsov has headed the "Nizhny Novgorod Volunteer Service" since 2009, and in 2024 became the head of the regional executive committee of the People's Front.
