More than half of the wastewater treatment plants in Nizhny Novgorod Oblast require repairs.

      More than half of the treatment facilities in the Nizhny Novgorod region require current or major repairs. This became known during a round table on environmental issues of the Volga basin, which was held at the Volga State University of Water Transport (VSUWT) on October 1.

      According to information voiced by representatives of the regional Ministry of Housing and Communal Services, 230 treatment facilities are operating in the region. About 60% of them need reconstruction or substantial modernization.

      To address this task among others, systematic work has been carried out in the region since 2019 as part of the national project "Ecology." Currently, reconstruction of 31 facilities is underway, and the central focus of this program has become the modernization of the Nizhny Novgorod Aeration Station (NAS).

      In addition to the condition of treatment facilities, round table participants touched on other important environmental issues. In particular, they discussed drinking water quality and pollution of the Volga basin, and the continuation of modernization at the Malinovaya Gryada waterworks.

      A report on the use of digital solutions to improve technosphere safety was delivered by Professor Andrey Plastinin, head of the Training and Simulation Center for Environmental Safety and Monitoring at VSUWT. He presented more than 20 developments aimed at comprehensive engineering solutions, emergency risk management and the organization of multi-level environmental monitoring.

      Earlier it was reported that a new water purification technology will be launched at the Nizhny Novgorod Aeration Station.
