The number of rapes increased by 84% in Nizhny Novgorod Oblast.

      In the Nizhny Novgorod region a sharp rise in the number of rapes was recorded in the first seven months of 2025. This is stated in a report by the regional directorate of the Ministry of Internal Affairs.

      From January to July, 46 such crimes were registered in the region. This is 84% more than in the same period last year, when 25 cases were recorded.

      Overall the crime rate in the oblast has slightly decreased. From January to July 2025, 19,779 crimes were reported, 1.9% fewer than a year earlier.

      However, some categories have seen an increase. For example, the number of murders rose by 1.9%.

      Earlier it was reported that a migrant was sentenced to 12 years in a strict-regime penal colony for sexually assaulting an 11-year-old girl in Kstovo.
