Nizhny Novgorod Oblast is strengthening technological cooperation with foreign partners and is betting on localizing foreign production on its territory. This was announced at a press conference dedicated to the VI International Forum of Foreign Economic Activity (18+), reports the correspondent of NIA "Nizhny Novgorod".
Answering journalists' questions, Deputy Chairman of the regional government Dmitry Starostin noted that the share of non-commodity exports is growing in the region's trade with China — primarily products of the chemical industry, paper, cardboard, and equipment. However, regional authorities do not intend to limit themselves to the current formats of interaction.
According to him, negotiations are currently underway with Chinese companies on the development of deepened technological cooperation, including the establishment of production facilities in Nizhny Novgorod Oblast. At the same time, this is not about simple assembly production, but about full-fledged joint work based on the region's scientific and technological potential.
"We want not just assembly plants, but real technological cooperation projects in areas such as mechanical engineering, light industry, information and digital technologies. This is possible thanks to the region's scientific and technical base and the growing trust between our countries," Starostin said.
He expressed confidence that the implementation of such initiatives will not only strengthen the region's scientific and industrial base but also become a driver of further growth in trade turnover between Russia and China.
Speaking about cooperation with India, Starostin emphasized that its level has grown significantly over the past year. According to him, there is already serious industrial cooperation, to which the regional authorities seek to add services, IT, pharmaceuticals and high-tech sectors. In particular, ties with Indian technoparks are actively developing, including T-Hub in the state of Telangana.
"We see enormous potential in joint developments with Indian and Chinese companies. This is not just trade, but a full-fledged technological partnership," he added.
Cuba is also among the region's priority partners. Within the framework of the forum, it is planned to discuss expanding cooperation in medicine, pharmaceuticals and information technologies. Earlier, Nizhny Novgorod Oblast already implemented a joint project with Cuba to hold an international IT olympiad.
The region is actively promoting itself as a center for digital technologies. A federal IT campus project is being implemented in Nizhny Novgorod, which already collaborates with leading Russian and foreign IT companies, as well as with technoparks from India, Cuba and Serbia.
"We are creating conditions for training world-class specialists and want foreign students to come to study with us," Starostin said.
Recall that the forum will be held in Nizhny Novgorod for the first time on 21 October. It will serve as a platform for discussing the digitalization of logistics, cross-border trade and technology transfer. Separate sessions dedicated to digital solutions in foreign economic activity are planned. Organizers hope the event will become an annual platform for developing international ties and attracting investment to Nizhny Novgorod Oblast.
Earlier it was reported that in early September representatives of India's tourism industry familiarized themselves with the tourist potential of Nizhny Novgorod Oblast.
